Regulatory information
These details come from the public register of approved operators maintained by the Autorité Nationale des Jeux. The link below opens the official page.
Betsson is a Scandinavian operator active in the Nordic market since the 1960s. Its French subsidiary, Betsson France SA, obtained approval from the Autorité Nationale des Jeux on 21 September 2023 and opened its online sports betting offer in November of the same year. It is therefore one of the most recent entrants to the regulated French market, which shows in an interface designed from scratch rather than inherited from a decade of patches.
Our verdict
Betsson clearly targets the bettor who compares odds before staking. Margins observed on European football are among the tightest in the approved market, and the accumulator structure stays readable. In return, market depth on secondary disciplines still lags behind operators established since 2010, and French-language customer support, while competent, runs on shorter hours than the competition.
Strengths
Among the tightest margins in the approved market on football and tennis
Recent interface, built mobile-first
KYC verification handled quickly through a fully digital journey
Moderation tools (deposit limits, self-exclusion) reachable in two clicks
Weaknesses
Market depth still limited on niche disciplines
French-language support on reduced opening hours
Live streaming less extensive than at long-established operators
Point-by-point review
01
Odds and margins
Across a sample of Ligue 1 and Premier League fixtures tracked over the season, Betsson’s average margin on the 1X2 market sits at the low end of the French approved market range. The gap is wider on side markets (corner counts, goalscorers) where the operator applies a deliberately aggressive pricing policy to capture odds-comparing bettors. That advantage narrows on low-volume competitions.
02
Sports coverage
Football, tennis and basketball form the core of the offer, with full coverage of the major European leagues and the ATP/WTA circuits. Handball, rugby and winter sports are present but with markedly fewer markets per fixture than established operators provide. In-play betting covers headline fixtures without consistently reaching down to lower divisions.
03
Mobile app and usability
The app was designed after the French launch, with no inherited technical debt. The betting funnel takes three interactions from the home screen, the slip stays permanently accessible, and load times measured on 4G remain under a second on competition pages. Search by team works well; browsing the competition tree is more laborious.
04
Deposits, withdrawals and verification
Account opening requires the identity verification set out by French regulation: proof of identity and proof of address. Processing is largely automated and usually settles within 24 to 48 hours. Bank transfer withdrawals are quoted at one to three working days. As with every approved operator, no withdrawal is possible until the account is definitively validated.
05
Safeguards and moderation
Betsson applies the framework required by the ANJ: configurable deposit ceilings, stake limits, temporary time-out and self-exclusion. These settings are grouped on a single account screen, which avoids hunting through sub-menus. The regulatory warning message and the referral to Joueurs Info Service are displayed in line with French obligations.
